ODE TO FRIDA

Hot on the tail of Crystal Renn’s swimwear editorial for Glamour in May comes this 12 page homage to artist Frida Kahlo in the July 2009 issue of Elle Canada, shot in Mexico for extra authenticity, natch.

Photography team Leda and St. Jacques hail from decidedly non-tropical Montreal, yet seem to have a particular talent for saturated, sultry swimwear shots.

Note: Elle Canada was using image #4 on one of their online pages last week, and have now subbed it for another L&SJ swimwear shot of a size 2 model. Boo!!

Exquisite photos. I found this after flipping through this week’s Guardian magazine and finding pictures of a model in tops with huge shoulders and tight-fitting skirts. The clothes hung on her frame and I thought, “She is just too skinny.” I can’t remember the last time I thought that…perhaps never. Usually it’s “I’ll never look like that and I wish I did.” Realizing that the way I think about my and other’s bodies is changing gives me hope that someday I can just accept my body as it is. And then maybe I’ll be able to do that for others, without needing to label them as “too skinny” or anything else…we can all just revel in our bodies as they are.

This model is GORGEOUS. Love your blog. I'm not full-figured per se (petite with muscular thighs), yet I take comfort in seeing that beauty transcends size and shape.

Boo @ the magazine for switching models. Le sigh.
