From perhaps the late 1990s is this Spring booklet from retailer Holt Renfrew, which used to have quite a well-stocked plus-size designer section in all of its stores throughout Canada. Alas, these images now form something of an obituary as the section was ‘deleted’ when the stores underwent a nationwide makeover.
Customer service representatives will happily tell enquirers looking for larger-sized clothing that they stock up to a size 16 in Armani Black Label, Armani Collezoni, Akris, Akris Punto, Eskandar, Eilleen Fisher, Lafayette and St. John. Eagle-eyed shoppers may however discover even larger sizes among the sale racks from the designers who rent boutique spaces in the stores as their merchandise is separate from that of the main Holt Renfrew stock and is not necessarily subject to Holt’s limited size-purchasing policy.
