New Zealand is juuuuusssst far enough away from Australia that their designers can develop their own distinct direction and style when it comes to fashion. 100% New Zealand made, The Carpenter’s Daughter label has a 19 year tradition of creating clothing to celebrate the curves of women’s bodies, accentuate the positive and empower curvy women to hold their heads high and feel worthy of fashion.
These images remind me of the concept Jean Paul Gaultier used for his costumes for the Peter Greenaway movie, “The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover” . The color of the clothes changed from scene to scene, so the clothes matched the tones (dramatic and aesthetic) of the room. It’s a quirky avantgarde piece, but if you want to see a really unique vision in film, I recommend it.

The label staged a runway show during Air New Zealand Fashion Week, continuing their habit of using a variety of model sizes, shapes and ages to best illustrate their brand philosophy.
