NOT YOUR GRANDMA’S POLLYANNA – NSFW

Pollyanna McIntosh was photographed in a 12-page editorial by Nick Knight for UK Vogue‘s December 2003 issue. Produced as an homage to Polish painter Tamara De Lempicka (with at least one being a direct reproduction, of the 1929 Andromeda ), these photographs shout femininity and sensuality without being overtly sexy – despite the nudity, latex, chains and general deshabile. The curves of the model are somewhat softer than those of the original paintings, although it has to be noted how Photoshopped they are.  Knight is well known for using technology to bend his images to his wishes.

When Knight was commissioned to shoot a fashion story on the return of silk, there was only one model he had in mind; the voluptuous and curvy Pollyanna McIntosh.

“She’s a size 16 so looks incredible in silk,“ he says. “I like to promote different aspects of fashion and a curvaceous model can look amazing.”  Pollyanna knows how lucky she was.  “Vogue would normally never use a model my size but Nick persuaded them,” she admits.  “I love the idea of a normal woman reading through the magazine and turning the page to see me and think, ‘She’s fat and she’s f***** sexy!’  It was my first time working for Vogue and being nude in some of the shots, I could have felt intimidated but because it was Nick, I just thought, ‘Let’s make some beautiful, hot art’”.
