At last there’s been a long over-due jump made from the “Vogue Curvy” online offerings of Vogue Italia back to the printed page. Not since the February and April covers of 2000 has Vogue Italia featured a model over EU38 front and centre; for June of 2011 they have chosen three faces!
Photographed in the Towers of the Waldorf Astoria New York, the cover, accompanying editorial and backstage video of the shoot show that VI’s Editor Franca Sozzani is demonstrably more committed to inclusion and size diversity than her other Vogue edition counterparts.
One of the models is quoted post-shoot that ” We shot a Vogue Italia cover with all this designer stuff. Out of 100 dresses only two fitted as they were straight from the catwalk. There was a seamstress there to alter them, so they were cutting up £20,000 frocks! In the end, they went for the lingerie shots, so none of the dresses got used.” On the bright side – at least these dresses were made available for the shoot, which is a major step forward.
Plus there is another FASHION editorial in the issue featuring Robyn Lawley!

quel dommage. styling was uninspired, borrowing heavily from Bettie Page and 50′s soft porn. girls were lovely, tho.
I’m Italian and bought this issue. Unfortunately Italian people didn’t take this thing too well, most of them claim these beautiful models are ‘fat’! That’s what most comments from users of Vogue Italia showed. Our plus size models are a Uk size 14 maximum. Italians still have a very discriminating attitude towards plus size ppl, especially women, if you get in a shop with a 14+ size they will look at you with pity and tell you ‘for you we don’t have anything’ with an annoyed voice. I doubt things will change. I have a blog on plus size fashion and I am one of the few who does outfit pics/videos but I heard people say that doing so promotes obesity. It’s quite sad…
Stunning!!!
brava, brava! a must have!
