THE NAME CHANGE

WHY THE CHANGE?

It can’t be denied: the biggest leap forward for the usage of larger models in mainstream fashion has come via the runway.  Designers are mingling models of different sizes on their catwalks to better celebrate the diversity of women, and to generate publicity for their brand.  Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Mark Fast, William Tempest, Alexandra Groover, Elena Miro, Sunny Fong, and City Chic are all names that have been recently circulated in international press for bringing larger models to the catwalk during major-market Fashion Weeks.  Clearly the idea is gaining momentum beyond mere publicity stunts, and the public is loving it.

It was disappointing to leave behind the names CurveSmart and Every Body Is Beautiful in the move to this site. I made up the combi-word CurveSmart a few years ago when I was planning an online auction site for plus-size clothing. Curves-Mart/Curve-Smart – I liked the wordplay. I bought the dot.coms for them in 2006, but through mishaps and miscommunication the domain names went back on the market and someone else bought them.  A weightloss company someone.  *headdesk*

I’d recently discovered that the phrase CurveSmart is now attached to products that have nothing to do with fashion. Likewise, even though Every Body is Beautiful has search results that are more connected with the mission of this site (body image), it was getting difficult for people to find the site if they had to rely on a search engine. I’d also been having problems with my image hosts deleting images they found objectionable (Topless beauties!  Egads!) so I thought it was time I created a new home with a new name and my own hosting to better settle in for the long haul.

Hence: Runway Revolution.com, with the logo hinting at the fact that there is still some great potential for change ahead of the industry. Vive la Revolution!

Having said all of that, I have since realized that the comments policy for this website makes it hard to have open discussion about topics related to size and fashion, which may be triggering to people with health disorders.  Therefore I’ve recast the original site as a companion to Runway Revolution where we can speak freely about what is happening in the industry and in related topics, and I encourage everyone to jump into the fray!
