Kate Dillon

Besides being one of the original “plus-size” supermodels and repeat cover star of Mode Magazine, Kate Dillon Levin graduated from Harvard in 2009 with a Master’s Degree in International Development and is dedicated to changing the world whereever she might.   Vogue U.S. featured Kate in its annual “Shape Issue” of April, 2010 wearing lipstick [...]

Marina Rinaldi’s MR Giorno collection for Spring 2010 has been launched, arriving in northern hemisphere stores very soon if not already there…a bit hard to imagine wearing floaty dresses while the snow keeps falling! Model: Kate Dillon Photographer: Max Cardelli

Marina Rinaldi shows that monotones don’t have to be monotonous…hints of jewel colours and luxe textures lift winter coats and suiting from function to fashion.

Rather surprisingly, Glamour magazine’s online version of the November issue contains an unabridged version of the nude shoot and article that has been previously described on this site. For those wondering, there is only one group nude shot published in the actual magazine with the interview, which appears below. There are other photographs, such as the [...]

On October 1, 2009 the Ellen DeGeneres Show featured four of the seven models who were photographed nude for Glamour magazine’s November issue – Kate Dillon, Crystal Renn, Lizzie Miller and Amy Lemons. I’ve broken the video up into two pieces for those readers with slow internet connections.

Sometimes, in the quirky world of the internet, when you are looking for one thing you find something completely unexpected. Today, while searching for backissues of MODE on eBay, I happened across a seller of canvas art prints – one of which features a Medusa-esque Kate Dillon. I am hoping to find out who the [...]

THE V GIRLS

Lane Bryant was the first plus-size retailer to use fashion, sports and/or media celebrities to increase brand recognition and engage mainstream media coverage, with the first delivery of this new attitude being the 1998 launch their of youth line Venezia Jeans Clothing Co. Shot by renowned fashion photographer Francesco Scavullo, the first set of V [...]

EN VOGUE 1: OPPOSITES ATTRACT 2004

In April 2002, Vogue US released its first Shape Issue starring Kate Dillon as shot by Helmut Newton, with a short interview. It says something about how seriously Vogue took their first attempt at including larger models by enlisting a photographer as reknown as Newton; but it’s a shame that for the successive Shape Issues [...]

GO WEST, KATE

It’s always refreshing to see normalized body shapes in fashion advertising – but especially when the retailer also offers clothing in both regular and extended sizing and advertises the fact as subtlely as this magazine image does.   Kate Dillon for Nine West Photographer: TBA

THE OLD GUARD

Thumbnail image for THE OLD GUARD

People magazine‘s issue of 7 February, 2001 ran a multi-page article on the top plus models of the day…Kate Dillon, Allegra Doherty, Emme Aronson, Mia Tyler, Audra Marie Perkins and Natalie Laughlin.

GIRL ON THE AVENUE

In 1999, American retailer Avenue decided to up the advertising ante against Lane Bryant, and commissioned these images of Kate Dillon from the late, great Richard Avedon. They appeared for the first time in Mode Magazine’s September 1999 issue. People seem to prefer the Aphrodite image with the apple above the others, but I appreciate them [...]

NATURAL BEAUTY

Kate Dillon/Wilhelmina reclines gracefully in Jane magazine, circa August 2007.  Unfortunately Jane is no longer in print, and so another champion of plus-size models disappears…. Photographer: TBA Thanks to Joelle-Squared/tFS  Image sourced from ONTD via tFS

ET DIEU CRÉA LA FEMME

Kate Dillon appeared in July 2007 in Elle France in interview, accompanied by these photos:              The following images are unretouched (maybe not the swimsuit?) outtakes from this shoot with photographer Matt Jones.         Kate has a beautiful, soft and natural body and clearly looks very comfortable in her skin. If anyone [...]

KATE IN GUCCI

When Tom Ford took over the creative directorship of Gucci, a lot of things changed.  Celebrities like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow started wearing the clothes ad nauseam, and Kate Dillon appeared rather hidden away in black, but still clearly identifiable in a collective ad image from S/S 2000 featuring American actresses Gina Gershon and Lisa Eisner.        [...]

REMEMBER WHEN…?

Remember when Lane Bryant splashed money on celeb models to help with their branding?  Here’s a shot from ?help! featuring Carré Otis when she was working as a plus size (allegedly about a US size 10 at that time) and Marcus Schenkenberg positioned among Philippa Allam, Kate Dillon and Tami Fitzhugh. I am interested in knowing whether this [...]

TANGO WITH KATE

Kate Dillon has enjoyed a truly illustrious career, having worked with many big-name photographers, both in her beginnings as a high-fashion model, and her renaissance as a plus-size model.  Following are two images from a trip to Buenos Aires with Vogue Paris for the February 2006 issue.  I love that Carine Roitfeld is on board [...]
